Frequently Asked Questions — RAC & Waitlist Refunds

Clarifications on clerkage fees, boarding rules, and automatic cancellations.

01.How much is deducted when cancelling an RAC or Waitlisted ticket?

For RAC and Waitlisted tickets cancelled up to 30 minutes before the scheduled train departure, IRCTC deducts a flat clerkage charge of ₹60 per passenger (plus 5% GST on AC classes, making it ₹63). The rest of the ticket fare is refunded in full.

02.Do I need to manually cancel a waitlisted online e-ticket?

No. If an online e-ticket remains fully on the waiting list after chart preparation, IRCTC automatically cancels it. The refund is credited automatically to your bank account/payment source without needing manual cancellation.

03.Can I travel on a train with a Waitlisted e-ticket?

No. Passengers with fully waitlisted e-tickets are NOT permitted to board the train. If found travelling, they are treated as ticketless passengers and fined.

04.What if one passenger is Confirmed and one is Waitlisted on the same PNR?

This is a partially confirmed ticket. If the waitlisted passenger does not travel, all passengers on the PNR can cancel their tickets by filing an online TDR up to 30 minutes before train departure to claim a refund for all passengers.
