01.Why is GST added to IRCTC cancellation charges for AC classes?
As per Ministry of Finance and Railway Board guidelines, cancellation charges for Air-Conditioned (AC) classes (1A, 2A, 3A, 3E, CC, EC) are treated as a service supply and attract 5% Goods and Services Tax (GST). Non-AC classes (Sleeper, Second Sitting) are exempt from GST on cancellation.
02.What is the minimum cancellation charge for Sleeper Class (SL)?
The minimum flat cancellation charge for Sleeper Class is ₹120 per passenger when cancelled more than 48 hours prior to train departure. No GST is applicable.
03.What is the minimum cancellation charge for 3rd AC (3A)?
The flat cancellation fee for AC 3 Tier is ₹180 plus 5% GST (₹9), making the total minimum deduction ₹189 per passenger.
04.Can cancellation charges exceed the total ticket fare?
No. Cancellation deductions are always capped at the total base fare paid for the ticket. You will never be asked to pay an additional fee upon cancelling.
