Frequently Asked Questions — Tatkal Quota Refunds
Clarifications on Tatkal deductions and TDR exceptions.
01.Why does IRCTC not give any refund on Confirmed Tatkal tickets?
Tatkal quota is intended for emergency travel booked at short notice. To discourage ticket scalping and maximize berth utilization, Indian Railways enforces a strict 0% refund policy on voluntary cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets.
02.Can I get a refund if my Tatkal ticket is on the Waiting List (WL)?
Yes! If your Tatkal ticket remains in the waiting list after chart preparation, IRCTC automatically cancels it and refunds your full fare minus the standard ₹60 clerkage charge.
03.How do I get a 100% refund on a Confirmed Tatkal ticket?
A full 100% refund on Confirmed Tatkal is permissible ONLY under specific railway faults: 1) Train is delayed by >3 hours at the boarding station, 2) Train runs on a diverted route and passenger declines to travel, 3) Coach with booked berth is not attached, or 4) The train is cancelled. You must file an online TDR before train departure to claim the full refund.
04.What is Premium Tatkal refund policy?
Premium Tatkal (PT) tickets follow the exact same cancellation rules as standard Tatkal: No refund (0%) on confirmed tickets. Dynamic surge fare is not refunded upon voluntary cancellation.
